Kyle Moore Wins Third Annual Charlie Poague Memorial Race Presented by ILVDIRT at Plymouth Motor Speedway

When people speak of Charlie Poague, the words generosity and genuine are the first two words to describe the legendary Street Stock driver whose career spanned decades. His memory lives on as the generosity of others help drivers in the class he loved to race. Sponsors of laps and other recognitions went well over the $10,109 winning purse.
Drivers from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa gathered at Plymouth Motor Speedway Saturday night to honor the memory of Charlie Poague in the third annual Charlie Poague Memorial Race presented by ILVDIRT. Drivers used every inch of the dirt surface to make it an exciting feature for the big crowd at the Playground of Power.
Kyle Moore (Mansfield, Ohio) dominated the feature leading all 50 laps. Lee Hobbs (Mitchell, Indiana) followed in the tracks of Moore, while Kyle Anderson was a contender for the third position for about half of the race until Frank Marshall (Valparaiso, Indiana) started moving up in the field. Marshall started 13th and used the outside groove to get to the third spot by lap 21. Anderson would race Marshall for that spot for several laps, but could not pass the No. 13 of Marshall who stepped in the Super Street just for this race. Marshall worked on Hobbs for the second spot in the closing laps, but slipped up in the cushion and was not able to get the grip needed to collect the track position by the time the checkered flag flew. Moore was the $10,109 winner with Hobbs in second and Marshall in third.
“It’s the biggest win I’ve ever gotten,” said Moore following the feature. “Thank you to everyone who helps me. This track was slick and had a lot of momentum!”
Rob Myers, Charlie Poague’s son, drove Poague’s No. 109 in a B Main event. “I just wanted to get at least one lap in in my dad’s car,” he stated before the night’s activities.
Fans who caught tennis balls from the drivers prior to the feature received a prize if they finished in the top three in the feature – another generous gift for those who attended the Charlie Poague Memorial Race.
Two other classes participated in regular features Saturday night.
The UMP Modified show opened with Bradley Jameson jumping out front of the field after pole-sitter Frank Marshall experienced an issue with his race car. Derek Losh (Rensselaer, Indiana), running the top groove, started his prowl to the lead. Jameson caught lapped traffic and Losh dove in between Jameson and the lapped car for the lead in turns three and four. Losh then pulled away with the field. Dylan Woodling (Warsaw, Indiana) drove quietly in the second spot through the feature while Bobby Stremme (South Bend, Indiana) snuck into the third spot by lap 15. Losh won with a 2.5 second lead on Woodling in the feature that only had one caution.
“I got the old hot rod out tonight after working on it for a while. We’re excited to get the win here at Plymouth,” stated Losh after his win.
The Thunder Stocks closed the feature races Saturday night. David Hurst (Lafayette, Indiana) was able to stay ahead of the field despite a high number of cautions. Lee Hall (Oxford, Indiana) started seventh but moved up the field as he used the high groove to maneuver his car around the track. He had to work his way around Brandon Shelhart who occupied the second position through the first 10 laps. Hall moved into the second place spot overtaking Shelhart on the backstretch on lap 11. Jacob Kolwyck (Griffith, Indiana) challenged Shelhart for the third position, battling side-by-side for the next few laps with Kolwyck claiming the spot and finishing there.
Hurst stated, “Thank you to everyone for their help on the car for this weekend. It was a good race. My car is the 18DK and I race it in memory of my step son, Dalton Kendall (DK). It’s a wonderful way to remember him and I’m living on for him.”
Plymouth Motor Speedway will feature the Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts Open Wheel Wednesday on Wednesday, June 16 with 410 Non-Wing Sprints and 600 Non-Wing Sprints. Grandstands will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m. ET. Admission is $20 for adults, and $5 for children ages 6-12. A regular night of racing will be featured Saturday, June 19 with the Super Streets, Thunder Stocks, Front Wheel Drives and 600 Non-Wing Sprints. Hot laps will start at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m. ET. The UMP Summer Nationals “Hell Tour” Late Models and Modifieds will be on the track Father’s Day Sunday, June 20.
